Jessup and Elkridge Crime Statistics

The 2017 crime statistics were pulled from the Howard County Government web page.  The purpose of this report is to compare crime rates along different stretches of the Route 1 corridor in order to dismiss, as some have proclaimed, that Jessup is a high crime area.

I have broken up the crime reports into 3 zones:

Zone 1 (Elkridge North): Above Rt. 100 to NE county line (Parcel 1, Parcel 2, Parcel 3)

Zone 2 (Elkridge South): Below Rt. 100 but above Rt. 175 (Parcel 4, Parcel 5)

Zone 3 (Jessup): Below Rt 175 but above Rt. 32 (Parcel 6, Parcel 7, Parcel 8, Parcel 9)

The northeast border for each of these zones is I-95 and the southwest border is the Anne Arundel county line.

If you add up the parcels from each of these three zones, you would get the following…

 Zone 1

 Zone 2

Zone 3

 Aggravated Assault

As can be seen, the area where the proposed high school would go (Zone 3) is not really worse, and is in fact better in most of the crime categories than Elkridge (Zone 1 or 2).
